Basis is Next-Gen Health Now
With the unprecedented advancement of science and technology, we believe there should be a new way, in addition to diet and exercise, for people to stay healthy.
That’s what Basis is: One product to support the long-term health of your cells.
Cells are the smallest unit of life — and the average human body has trillions of them. In each cell are components called organelles, including familiar names like the mitochondria and the nucleus, which communicate with each other to carry out all of the processes in our body.
This communication consists of physical, chemical, and nutritional processes by which cells convert food to energy, light to imagery, and stimulus to sensation. Research has demonstrated that healthy cellular communication relies on the coenzyme NAD+ and a class of proteins called sirtuins. NAD+ declines in organisms as they age, including in humans, and sirtuins depend on NAD+ to function.
Proteins that act as vital regulators in the cell, turning our genes on and off to control our body’s response to nutrition levels and stress. Sirtuins require NAD+ to function.
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, is a coenzyme found in all living cells. It plays an essential role in hundreds of metabolic processes in the cell. NAD+ powers sirtuins.
Why NAD+ and Sirtuins Are Important
NAD+ and sirtuins are essential to cellular health. Since sirtuins are dependent on NAD+, their functions often overlap.
Basis Increases NAD+ Levels With Two Compounds
Basis contains two unique compounds found in nature: nicotinamide riboside (NR), a precursor to NAD+, and pterostilbene, a polyphenol. Both have been validated in numerous scientific studies over the past two decades.
Clinical research demonstrates that Nicotinamide Riboside (NR), which is found in trace amounts in milk, is a highly efficient precursor to NAD+. Incorporating NR into the body has been shown to restore NAD+ levels in laboratory models, combating age-related decline in the NAD+ supply that cells experience. Additional research is needed to confirm similar effects in humans. Preclinical studies link the restoration of NAD+ supplies to an improvement in metabolic efficiency.
Pterostilbene is a powerful polyphenol created by plants to protect against internal and external stress. It is available in the human diet only in trace amounts, in certain types of berries. Pterostilbene is more bioavailable than other plant-derived compounds in the same family, meaning that it’s more readily absorbed by the body, and lab studies have shown that it may improve metabolic health, in particular by activating sirtuins.
